This advanced course is designed to assists participants in understanding medical terminology, anatomy and medical testing so they can interpret medical information in Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) files. Participants will learn medical terminology, and human anatomy with attention to the different organ systems (skeletal, muscular, nervous, auditory, ocular, respiratory, circulatory, digestive, and integumentary). Return to Work Program – Toronto
In this week-long course participants examine leading research on return to work practices and legal requirements for re-integrating injured workers back into the workplace. Participants discuss the duty to accommodate, and ways to remove barriers that restrict participation of workers dealing with disability. The program includes an examination of strategies for preventing disability by seeing it as a social rather than medical issue. This week-long workshop will explore the impact of occupational disease, legal test and medical standards for causation, legal principles used in appeals and the significance of apportionment. Participants will examine different types of studies, how data is analyzed and what to look for when assessing a study. They will review toxicology and its significance and how to examine an expert witness. In this week-long course participants will examine medical testing and interpret medical information found in claim files. They will learn medical terminology and human anatomy with attention to the different organ systems, specific injuries involving the back, bone, MSI and disorders such as chronic pain and fibromyalgia. Mental stress will be examined along with WSIB policies relating to traumatic stress, psychotraumatic disability and behavioural disorders. The course also covers WSIB policies, medical specialists, diagnostic tests, awards and how they are calculated and when and how a re-determination occurs.
