Occupational Hearing Loss

Occupational Hearing Loss is caused by prolonged exposure to noise at work which results in the damage of the nerve cells of the inner ear.
Participants will gain an understanding of occupational hearing loss through:
- A review of the anatomy of the ear;
- Understanding how sound is transmitted; and
- How hearing is tested.
The adjudicative process and permanent impairment ratings for compensable hearing loss is explained.
Different scenarios for hearing loss are presented including:
- Asymmetrical hearing loss;
- Presbycusis;
- Ménière’s disease; and
- Otosclerosis.
